Students Rising Above (SRA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization supporting and empowering low-income, first-generation students to access and obtain post-secondary education and secure career-ladder jobs, fueling a diverse and inclusive workforce and thriving economy. Every year, Students Rising Above accepts applications from Bay Area High School seniors who are interested in becoming SRA scholars. We select students who demonstrate drive and potential, and provide them with the expertise, tools, and resources they will need to overcome life’s most challenging obstacles and reach their goals in gaining a postsecondary education.

• Openness: More than just accepting others where they are and how they come, openness describes our pioneering spirit that guides us in exploring new possibilities and opportunities with intentionality and care. • Collaboration: We are stronger and have a deeper impact through collaboration - with our students, co-workers, supporters, and partners. Greater success is achieved through authentic communication, strong and strategic partnerships, and a familial spirit. • Inclusivity: Differences are vital assets that strengthen our communities. Inclusivity informs our strategy when creating programming for our students, hiring staff and engaging partners from across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Our work supports the creation of a more diverse and inclusive society. • Commitment: We accept the responsibility of changing the future through the cultivation of extraordinary youth. We are passionate about equity and justice and have an unwavering belief in the potential of our students. • Growth: With the courage and resourcefulness needed to challenge the status quo, we strive to be a catalyst for long-term social change.
SRA tracks extensive student data including: ethnic/socio/economic stats; high school attendance; college applications and acceptances and rejections; college enrollment; financial aid and scholarship history; college persistence/graduation rates; GPA; SAT/ACT scores; participation in SRA activities/services; household income; and family history. By tracking the complete picture of our students, SRA is better able to measure individual student progress and our overall program impact. • 90% of SRA students graduate from college in an average of five years or less. • With the help of SRA advisors, 100% of SRA students secure comprehensive healthcare and dental care during their time in postsecondary education. • SRA students graduate college with an average of less than $6,200 in student loan debt, versus a national average of $38,000. • With the help of SRA’s career development programming 79% of SRA students are in career-ladder jobs or graduate school within one year of graduating college.
