We Care Services for Children was founded 60 years ago in Contra Costa County by parents of young children with developmental and cognitive disabilities. Over time and in response to community need, we added mental health programs for children with social, emotional, and behavioral issues, and a preschool for typically developing children from low-income families that includes at-risk children with a history of preschool expulsions.
Youth Transforming Justice (YTJ) goals are to keep students in school and out of the Juvenile Justice system. We accomplish this by deploying several strategies. 1) The Marin County Youth Court uses restorative trauma-informed protocols to divert juvenile prosecution. The successful complication of the program removes the citation’s record. 2) We support schools in lowering suspension rates by training staff and students in the practice of restorative trauma-informed Alternatives to Suspension.
The Siena Youth Center (SYC) is a cherished non-profit program of the St. Francis Center whose focus is on providing a safe, fun, educational, and active environment for the youth and families in our community through our after-school program, summer camp program, and community center. For the youth, we offer one-on-one tutoring, homework help, youth-led classes that promote literacy,
Petaluma People Services Center (PPSC) Mentor Me program seeks to empower young people (k-12) to reach their highest potential by matching them with a mentor. Every child receiving mentoring in our program, of whom over 85% are economically disadvantaged, has at least one environmental factor that puts him or her at-risk of school failure, substance abuse,
Safe Passages’ (SP) mission is to disrupt the cycle of poverty by engaging youth and families to build and drive a continuum of services that supports student success and community development. Safe Passages’ work is based on the premises that access to educational opportunities should not be dictated by race or socio-economic status, and that healthy and supported young people are better prepared to learn and succeed.
AchieveKids is a non profit that operates two highly specialized schools to meet the need of the most complex learners in special education. Through collaborative multi-disciplinary teams we help students find learning for success beyond our doors, creating inclusive communities.
